Clay has been in my hands since childhood and over time it has become my preferred material, the one that allows me to express myself at my best. Its malleability, its capacity for shaping, the endless possibilities of firing, and the different final results have always fascinated me. Ceramics, understood as contemporary sculptural ceramics, is a world in which research is continuous, where every day I can experiment, learn, and discover new possibilities.
My art is strongly inspired by nature, its forms and surfaces, its hollows and protrusions, and its natural, earthy colors. Everything in nature is for me a great source of inspiration: acorns, stones, branches, flowers, shells, their textures and porosity. Everything in nature fascinates me.
My sculptural work focuses on modeling sculptures and wall reliefs in stoneware, favoring the use of pure oxides on clay for high-temperature firings. I also work with smoke-based techniques such as Naked Raku and primitive firing methods. In recent years, I have preferred using clays with particular chromatic qualities, in order to intervene as little as possible on the surfaces and leave the natural color of the earth pure. In other cases, I experiment with raised glaze coatings and other firing methods to find interesting and original solutions. At the core of my research lies great curiosity and a strong need to experience moments of inward, focused creativity. For me, it is a form of dynamic meditation, a way of being in the world.
In my studio, I spend happy hours creating new forms born from a simple lump of clay.
Biographical notes
I was born in 1973 in Sorengo and, after a happy childhood, I graduated in Decorative Arts at CSIA in Lugano in 1994.
In 2000, I obtained a diploma as a Psychomotor Therapist. During my training, I worked as head of a creative workshop at the Swiss-Italian Association for Autism Issues, dealing with severe cases.
From 1996 to 1999, I worked with Spazio Clan-destyn, an art and graphic studio, collaborating with architects and graphic designers and participating in editorial and artistic projects.
From 2005 to 2010, I was artistic director of the La Loggia Gallery in Carona, in charge of artist selection, exhibition design, and media communication.
In my studio in Bruzella, I regularly teach ceramic and sculptural techniques to groups of adults, and for 13 years I have collaborated with Cal Poly University in San Luis Obispo within the framework of summer study programs for architecture students in Ticino. Since 2013, I have been teaching art at TASIS – The American School in Switzerland in Montagnola, Collina d’Oro.
Since 2011, I have been a member of the Swiss Ceramic Association and in 2018 I obtained the Swiss Federal Certificate as a ceramist at CEPV in Vevey.
Since 1994, I have regularly exhibited in public and private spaces in Switzerland and abroad.
I am the mother of two adult children and I live happily surrounded by the greenery of the beautiful Muggio Valley in southern Ticino, together with my husband Ivan.
