Doris Althaus, born in 1970 in Solothurn, has one daughter. Her first encounter with clay took place in childhood, and since then the fascination and joy of shaping earth have accompanied her to this day. Her works include individual figures, groups, and narrative scenes inspired by everyday situations and her observation of the surrounding world.
Her ceramic figures are made from a blend of different stoneware and porcelain clays. All pieces are hand-built using slab and sculptural construction techniques, without photographic references. Through personal glaze and color mixtures, and sometimes multiple firings, she achieves delicate tonal variations and layered surfaces. Her works are fired in an electric kiln at 1260°C.
